Comparison Scopes

Comparison Scopes allow administrators to define which object types and properties are considered during entity alignment in the Matching View’s Align mode. These scopes tailor how alignment percentages are calculated by focusing only on business-relevant attributes.

Once created, scopes are immediately available for selection by users with ADMIN or CONTRIBUTOR roles in the Matching View configuration.

When to Use Comparison Scopes

Comparison Scopes are useful when:

  • Only a subset of properties is relevant for comparing entities (e.g., regulatory attributes for Medicinal Products)
  • There is a need to control which attributes contribute to the alignment calculation
  • Domain-specific comparison logic is required (e.g., different scopes for products vs. substances)

Accessing the Comparison Scope Configuration

To manage Comparison Scopes:

  1. Open the Admin page by clicking the gear icon in the sidebar.
  2. Select the Data Alignment tab.
  3. Scroll to the Comparison Scopes section.

This section is accessible only to users with ADMIN privileges.

Creating a New Comparison Scope

  1. Click + Add new scope.
  2. Enter a name for the scope (e.g., “Medicinal Product Comparison”).
  3. Click + Add Object Type and select a type (e.g., Medicinal Product).
    • A list of properties specific to that type will be shown.
    • Use Select All if needed.
    • At least one property must be selected.
    • Users can add multiple object types to the same scope. Each type can have its own set of selected properties.
  4. Save the scope.

Each added object type appears in the list with its selected properties. The administrator can expand or collapse rows to view details and modify object types as needed.

Managing Existing Scopes

For each saved scope, administrators can:

  • Rename the scope
  • Add or remove object types and properties
  • Delete the scope

The list supports searching, sorting, and column resizing for efficient navigation.

Applying Scopes in the Matching View

Scopes can be selected from the configuration popup in Match, Align, and Merge modes, but they are only applied in Align mode.

When a scope is selected: - A gear icon is displayed in the burger menu. Hovering over it shows the name of the active scope. - The system calculates alignment percentages in Align mode using only the scoped properties - In the side-by-side view, properties not part of the scope are grayed out and cannot be aligned - An info appears in the top-right corner, showing the active scope name

The selected scope is remembered during the user session.

Default and Preconfigured Scopes

Some scopes may be preconfigured and available to all users. These provide standardized comparison logic and can serve as templates for custom scopes.

Example Use Case

An administrator creates a scope for Medicinal Product with only:

  • Label
  • Has Active Substance
  • Has Route Of Administration

As a result, users in Align mode will only see alignment scores and value comparisons for those specific properties — improving clarity and reducing noise from unrelated attributes.

Permissions

Only users with the ADMIN role can create or manage comparison scopes. Users with ADMIN or CONTRIBUTOR roles can apply them in the Matching View (Align mode only).
