Comparison Scope Selection

Comparison Scopes define which object types and properties are considered during entity alignment in the Matching View. By selecting a specific scope, users can tailor the alignment calculation to focus only on business-relevant data.

This feature is available in the Align mode of the Matching View.

What Is a Comparison Scope?

A Comparison Scope is a reusable configuration, typically created by an administrator, that specifies:

  • One or more object types (e.g., Medicinal Product)
  • A defined list of properties for each object type (e.g., label, active substance)

When applied, the alignment score is calculated using only the properties included in the scope. Properties outside the scope are not considered and appear grayed out in the side-by-side alignment view.

Selecting a Comparison Scope

To apply a Comparison Scope:

  1. Open the Matching View and navigate to Align mode.
  2. Click the hamburger menu (≡).
  3. Select Edit Configuration.
  4. Open the Comparison Scope tab.
  5. Choose a scope from the list and click Apply.

🔍 Tip: The selected scope is saved in your session and applied automatically when viewing other aligned entities.

How the Scope Affects the View

Once a Comparison Scope is applied: - A gear icon appears in the burger menu. Hovering over it shows the active scope name. - The alignment percentage shown in the Align overview table is based only on scoped properties. - In the side-by-side view, properties not part of the selected scope are shown as grayed out and cannot be manually aligned. - An info appears in the top-right corner of the Align view to indicate the name of the active scope.

Reverting to No Scope

To remove a scope:

  1. Open the Edit Configuration panel.
  2. Navigate to the Comparison Scope tab.
  3. Users can remove the active scope by clicking the X icon in the dropdown.
  4. Save the configuration.

The system will then use all configurable properties when calculating alignment.

Example Use Case

Suppose the Medicinal Product comparison scope includes only:

  • Label
  • Has Active Substance
  • Has Route Of Administration

When applied:

  • The system calculates alignment scores using only these properties.
  • All other properties are visually de-emphasized in the interface.

This makes it easier to focus on critical regulatory fields and improves alignment clarity in domain-specific scenarios.

Permissions

Users with ADMIN or CONTRIBUTOR roles can apply Comparison Scopes in Align mode. Users with the USER role do not have access to Matching View. Scope definitions must be created by administrators via the Admin / Data Alignment page.
